Symposium on "Karst processes and the carbon cycle"

    Symposium on " Karst processes and the carbon cycle "   was held in Lipu on south of Guilin from April 26, 1997 to April 30,1997. In the meeting, we arranged two days (April 26 and 27) for academic exchange and three days (April 28, 29 and 30) for field investigation and discussion. Field experimental sites related to the aim of IGCP379  were  also visited .

    On April 26 and 27, IGCP 379(Carbon Cycle and Karst Processes) project reported the recent research progress on karst dynamic system, evaluation of the source-sink of the atmospheric CO₂ in karst processes and paleoenvironmental information records in karst area. Participants gave lectures for their research results on karst processes, global environmental changes and the environmental problems in karst area.

    Participants visited 5-km long Fengyu Cave (a beautiful tourism cave), with a subterranean river and many marvelous speleothems on April 28.
