The Facilities for the KDL

The facilities for the KDL include two parts: one is in the field, and the other is in the indoor lab.

In the field, eight monitoring sites distributed in different environments of China have been set upto under-stand the running processes of karst system under different conditions of geology, climate, hydrology, and vegetation. The instruments are CO2-gas meter, pH-meter with temperature sensor, alkalinity-meter, rain gauge, flow-meter, and conductivity meter. In each month or sometime in each two hours, CO2 partial pressure, release flux of soil CO2, temperature, pH-value, bicarbonate, rainfall and discharge of the karst system are monitored.

In the lab, an experimental setup for carbonate rock dissolution is available. An isotope lab for analyzing carbon-14, d 13C, 3H(T), D, d 18O, and U-content is open to public. The instruments include MM-903 mass spectrometer, LSC-LBI liquid display device, 4-channel a -spectroscopy system, amongst others.
