INTRODUCTION
With the development of economics, increasing karst collapse (named as sinkhole in USA) has become a major geohazard in karst areas of the world. According to incomplete statistics, there are more than 16 countries, including China, USA, S.Africa, France, etc., having been suffering from the damage of collapse. Covering 3.65 millions km2 of soluble rock, China is one of the Countries with most extensive distribution of karst collapses. The preliminary statistics indicate there are more than 1100 cases of karst collapses happened and distributed over 30 counties in 23 provinces, and about 40 thousa-nds of collapse pits formed. There are more than 30 big-medium-sized cities, 40 mines, 25 railway lines, and 100 reservoirs have been suffering seriously damage of karst collapses. Karst Dynamics Laboratory
has concentrated a great deal of effort on mitigating the geohazard, because
they have become a major type of geohazards to restrict the sustainable
development of economic in karst areas. In the recent years, a lot of
projects on the investigation, research, prev-ention and remedial engineering
of karst collapses have been carried out by the Laboratory, and a series
of effective results has been gained. |
